Patrick Mouratoglou has unleashed a storm that seems to have no end. After placing Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz above the Big Three, many players and experts have given their opinion on the matter. The latest to do so was Greg Rusedski, former British number 1, who explained why it is too early to compare Alcaraz to Novak Djokovic and the Big Three.

It is true that Carlos Alcaraz is breaking all possible records, especially after becoming the youngest player to complete the Career Grand Slam following his victory in the recent Australian Open. However, it is equally true that he is only 22 years old and has a whole career ahead where anything could happen. Therefore, Rusedski believes that the current world number one still has a lot to prove to enter the GOAT debate.

"In my opinion, it's ridiculous. He has won seven Grand Slams, he is on his way, but he still has to work to reach 20 or more. Djokovic has 24, Nadal 22, and Federer 20. There is a very large gap. He would have to win all the Grand Slams this year to reach 10," he explained on his podcast 'Off Court Cuts', in an opinion much more conservative than the one Mouratoglou had shown hours earlier.

Rusedski explains why Alcaraz is not yet at Djokovic's level

Contrary to Patrick, Rusedski delved deeper into his explanation, urging patience before drawing premature conclusions. "Even if he reaches 10 Grand Slams this year, he would still have to win all for two and a half years to reach 20, so it is a bit premature to throw him into the GOAT debate right now. You have to define yourself by something. Numbers, longevity, the era in which you played... Look at Novak's story. That's why I consider him the best of all time."

The greatness of Djokovic is not only defined by the achievements he has accomplished but also by who he has achieved them against, something that the former British player emphasized. "He entered the circuit with Andy Murray when Federer and Nadal were dominating. He stood up to that generation and told them he was going to compete head-to-head with them, and for a decade, he dominated the sport. The numbers don't lie," he concluded.

His opinion aligns with other former players like Boris Becker, who has criticized Mouratoglou for quickly forgetting the three greatest legends of this sport. If Alcaraz continues on this path and stays physically fit, it is normal for him to keep rising until one day entering that debate, just like Sinner. However, they are still several Grand Slams away from being compared to these three beasts. For now, the Murcian player has already become a legend despite his young age, but there is work to be done.
