Rafa Jódar continues to make waves by reaching the quarter-finals of Roland Garros 2026 at just 19 years old, proving to everyone that he is something special and that in Paris, he has earned the right to dream. In a tournament marked by major upsets, he knows that he is up against Alexander Zverev, the clear favorite for the title here. However, after the clay court season he's had, it's hard not to have faith in achieving something big.
During the press conference, the player from Madrid expressed his delight at playing for the first time on a major court like Suzanne Lenglen. He discussed his real chances against an opponent like Sascha. He understands that the key to maximizing his potential lies in the day off he has tomorrow, allowing him to recover as much as possible before his major match this Tuesday at Roland Garros.
Real chances against Zverev
It will be a very nice experience. These are the matches you dream of playing when you're young and watch the Grand Slams on TV. I will try to make the most of it. I played against Sinner in Madrid, so I have an idea of the level, but I know that winning here is a whole different story because it's a different match with different conditions. Even the format of the game is different. I will give my best and enjoy the match because playing against the world number 3 in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros doesn't happen every day.
Carreño and his great match
I think he was in the top 10 at some point, so I want to congratulate him not only for the match but also for his career. He has been a reference for Spanish tennis. It's tough when you have players like Rafa and Carlos around, but we have to acknowledge everything he has done and achieved. It's fantastic to share the court with him and have the opportunity to play against him here at Roland Garros in the fourth round.

At this point, let's enjoy
Yes, I'm trying to enjoy the moment. I was discussing it with my friends and family before the match. It's a gift to play in the fourth round at Roland Garros. So, my goal was to enjoy it. Obviously, you always want to win and show your best tennis, and that's what I did. I think I did a great job in accepting how things unfolded today. Pablo was playing at a high level in the first two sets, and I accepted that. Then I had my chance, and I believe I raised my level in the following three sets. So, I'm very pleased with how this week and the season are going.
Physical condition
I've obviously played a lot with four matches in this tournament. Some of them were longer than the first two. Even the second one was a long match. So, I'm just trying to recover well. These rest days are helping me a lot, having a day off between matches. It's great for preparing the body, and yes, I'm trying to recover well, but I'm not tired —smiles—.
First time on a court like Lenglen
It's my first year on the circuit, so I'm simply trying to enjoy the process. Everything is new to me. I'm going to learn a lot. I think this year will give me a lot of experience. There are things I don't know because, obviously, it's my first year, so some things will slip by me. But stepping onto these major courts feels very special. I'm very grateful to be part of a match against one of the best players in Spain, like Pablo. Being part of that match is very special to me.
Comeback against Carreño
I tried to accept things. I knew Pablo was playing at a high level in the first two sets, even though I served very well in the first set. But yes, he played very well. He deserved to win those first two sets. I think one of the key moments of the match was when I was losing, I think 4-0 in the second set, and yet I still believed I could win that set. I kept pushing to make him earn the set; it ended up 6-4, so I didn't let that second set slip away easily. I believe that was one of the key moments of the match.
So, yes, I'm very pleased with how I managed the important moments and the pressure points of the match because there were many. At times when other players might have accepted that reaching the fourth round was already significant, a great experience, and being two sets down, they might have let go. But I had the conviction that I could give a little more, and fortunately, I won the match.
