Paula Badosa faced one of the toughest moments of her career again. The Spanish tennis player had to retire in the final of the Iasi Open against Egyptian Mayar Sherif when she was losing 6-4 and 4-0, unable to continue due to her physical problems.

The decision left the former world No. 2 with deep frustration. After a week where she had regained sensations and competed for a title, Badosa was forced to abandon the match prematurely, a particularly painful situation for a player who has had to deal with numerous physical issues in recent years.

"I am always a very honest and real player. I have to say that I hate this moment right now, I hate losing a final and I am very sorry for having to do it this way," explained Badosa after the match. The Spanish player wanted to be especially clear about the reasons for her withdrawal. "I couldn't continue with my body, so I also apologize for that," she added, expressing her regret for not being able to complete the final against Sherif.

A look back to keep moving forward

However, her words did not end solely in disappointment. Badosa also wanted to recall the huge contrast between her current situation and what she was going through just a month ago. The Catalan acknowledged that she had come from "one of the worst losing streaks" of her career, but in just a few weeks, she managed to turn the dynamics around.

"A month later, I had one of the best winning streaks of my career. Lately, we've had a bit more positivity," she noted. That message sums up much of Badosa's recent journey. Injuries have influenced her progression and have turned every comeback into a challenge, but the Spanish player continues to find ways to compete again and regain confidence.

The withdrawal in Iași is another blow, but it doesn't erase the reaction she displayed in recent weeks. Badosa reached another final and showed that when her body responds, she maintains the necessary level to compete for major objectives. "I hate losing a final," she admitted. And precisely that frustration also reflects her ambition. Despite physical problems and darker moments, Paula Badosa keeps trying to return to the elite. Once again, her body forced her to pause. Her mindset, however, remains intact.
