Coco Gauff continues to advance in a WTA Beijing 2025 where she is already confirming herself as undoubtedly one of the top contenders for the title. After overcoming Eva Lys with less difficulty than in previous rounds, the American reaches the final stretch with a lot of confidence in her tennis, although also keeping an eye on various situations happening off the court.

One of them, surely the main one, concerns the signed letter that the top-10, both male and female, have sent to the Grand Slams asking for improvements in several areas. Coco Gauff decided this time to put her signature on this document, joining the group of elite players seeking reforms within the tennis ecosystem. She extensively discussed the purpose of this letter in a press conference, revealing that there are conversations between the Grand Slams and the teams of the world's best players, but she would prefer that everything be resolved privately.

- Gauff explains the content of that letter and the reasons why players are pressuring the Grand Slams

- Feelings after her victory today against Lys and in general, about a tournament where she already reaches the semifinals

"Very happy to have advanced today. Eva is a great player, I think she moved really well, but glad to have won in two sets. In this tournament, I am fighting a lot, that’s for sure. Against Leylah, it’s the best I’ve played against her, because she was also great, I won by a hair. The same against Belinda, in the tiebreak I had a bit of luck, with a ball that hit the tape and fell dead on the other side. It's been a tournament of hard work, of staying in every match. Today I had to fight, but I was able to close well with my serve, which I think is important for me in the long run".

- The famous letter that the top-10 have sent to the Slams demanding better conditions for female players: a powerful reflection by Coco on the tennis ecosystem

"On a personal level, if we look at the tennis ecosystem in the long run, I think it is really important. As we already know, the Grand Slams are the ones generating the most wealth: when you look at the percentage of their earnings that goes to prize money, it is not the same as in the WTA and ATP, despite these generating less than the Slams. Changing this is crucial. Sometimes people only focus on the prize money, but we are not only talking about raising it for the champion, but also spreading it to lower tiers, to the people in the previous rounds.

We want the Slams to invest more in the global circuit, not just in terms of prize money, but also in the well-being of players, and for that to reach the lower-ranking players. The 200 or 300 in the world struggle to make ends meet, something that is not common in other sports, especially considering the earnings tennis generates. I did it thinking about this sport in the long run, I don't know if we will get to that point while I am still playing, but I want to leave this sport in a better health than when I came in. All the top-10 players agree, I think it's the first time in the circuit that we’ve managed to get the top-10, both male and female, to sign something and agree on something. It's a big step. I know there are conversations. Hopefully, we can reach an agreement in the near future".

- About the effort it took to sign that letter and the minor issue they face after it was leaked

"We worked silently before the letter was made public, at least on the women's side, together with the Player's Council. The letter was not supposed to be leaked, although we signed it knowing that it would probably happen. I would like things not to be resolved in the public sphere, because it is better for players not to have to respond to this. It's the reality of our world, although for every major change, sometimes pressure needs to be exerted publicly. The Slams have been working with us behind the scenes to find a solution, but I don't know what will happen".

- About the fighting spirit and how that character complicates her opponents

"In the next two matches, I know things will only get more complicated. Maybe that will happen, I don’t know. I hope so. I think I have built for myself that reputation as a fighter, but I can't know what my opponent thinks".
