De Miñaur addresses doubles cutbacks

The controversy over the doubles circuit reform continues to generate reactions at Wimbledon. The latest to be asked about the reforms that the ATP intends to carry out in this format was Alex de Miñaur. The Australian, who has been focused almost exclusively on singles for years, acknowledged that he does not have all the necessary information to take a position, although he understands that the decisions made are for specific reasons.

"I have heard about the issue, like everyone," explained the Australian number one when asked about the situation facing the doubles format.

De Miñaur made it clear that he is not part of the meetings where these types of changes are discussed and therefore does not consider it appropriate to give a strong opinion. "I am a singles player. I play doubles occasionally, but I am not in those meetings nor do I make those decisions. I don't have much to say or contribute on that. In a way, I do what I am told."

"For many years, my calendar has practically consisted of playing singles. It's been a long time since I played doubles in a Grand Slam. My real goal is singles and I just try to do my best in that format."

Nevertheless, the current Australian number one believes that the debate should be analyzed from an objective point of view. "You have to look at the numbers. I don't have them in front of me. If everything was working well, I suppose these cutbacks would not have been considered."

Finally, he wanted to show his respect for doubles players, highlighting the effort they make each season. "I know many of those players. They train, dedicate hours of work, and prepare as much as any other player. Obviously, it's not pleasant to see a situation like this, but it probably all boils down to a matter of numbers. I guess if these decisions have been made, it's for some reason."
