Djokovic's Funny Anecdote with Sinner: "I Made a Mistake with Him"

Novak Djokovic shared one of the most amusing anecdotes of recent days during an event in the United States. The Serb, who was on stage with comedian Marcello Hernández, recalled with laughter how, years ago, he took the time to advise a young Jannik Sinner... before the Italian ended up becoming one of his great executioners on the Wimbledon grass.

The relationship between the two has always been marked by mutual respect. Djokovic has praised the current world number one's potential on numerous occasions, while Sinner has never hidden the admiration he felt for the Serb during his early professional years. However, the Italian's recent dominance over "Nole" has given a very different twist to that story.

Djokovic acknowledges giving accurate advice to Sinner years ago

During the conversation, Djokovic recalled a training session in which he decided to share with Sinner everything he had observed about his tennis, convinced that he could help him progress.

"I gave him the whole lowdown of everything I noticed on the court: his weaknesses, strengths, things he had to work on... And then, for the next three years, he beat me at Wimbledon every damn year. So maybe I made a mistake, I don't know!", joked Djokovic amidst the audience's laughter.

The Serbian's remark refers to Sinner's spectacular evolution, leading him to become one of the most dominant players on the circuit, defeating Djokovic at the British Grand Slam consecutively in recent editions.

True to his style, Djokovic used humor to illustrate how the pupil ended up surpassing the master. An anecdote that, besides eliciting laughter from attendees, once again highlighted the excellent relationship between two of the main figures in current tennis, united by a mutual admiration that remains intact despite the tough battles they have fought on the courts.
