Jannik Sinner had to dig deep against Benzamin Bonzi to start with a victory at the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open. The world number one triumphed after coming back from a set down (6-7(6), 6-1, 6-4) and in his on-court interview with TennisTV, he confessed the difficulties he faced during the match: "It was quite tough for me here. I knew it before the match. It's a very particular court and conditions. I think every day is different. Each day can make a big difference. I know that. I hope to improve a bit for the next round," stated the player from San Candido.

"I tried to keep a calm mind. That's why I won today. In terms of tennis, we're trying to get better. Tomorrow we have some time. A rest day. We will try to make the most of it in a very positive and good way. We'll see how far I can go," said the top favorite to claim the title at the Magic Box.
