Despite all the lions pouncing on Jannik Sinner when he announced his withdrawal in the 2025 Davis Cup finals, the Italian team showed they have a deep bench to achieve great things. Even facing adversity, the team played perfectly at home to ultimately defeat Spain in the Bolonia final 2-0.

Although many had lost faith in them, the group led by Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli stepped up, showing that the team's strength was more than enough to clinch the trophy, an accomplishment Italy has now achieved for the third consecutive year.

"This year was extraordinarily successful with the Davis Cup victory. Winning three consecutive titles was the feat of the year. With three different players, many newcomers, and many debutants, it's a sign of a healthy movement," said Filippo Volandri reflecting on another historic season for Italy in an interview with Ubitennis.

"Jannik was right. We remain a strong team. This victory is different from the others, perhaps the most heartfelt, alongside the first one, different but equally emotional. I am fortunate to have so many players because the Davis Cup isn't always won with the world number one or two, but with many players, asked to play roles they have performed brilliantly. We are proud of this; we have a team that makes me suffer but ultimately makes the difference to win," affirmed the captain of Italy.

"The true strength of the team lies in the fact that they are guys who get along well. After the victory, I called each one individually to tell them how important they were. Even a player like Sonego, with a high ranking but who didn't play in the end, worked hard for the team alongside Matteo, so Flavio could feel at his best. Over the past three years, the team, regardless of who is called up or who plays, supports each other, and for me, that is extremely important."
