It's a classic in December to review the best and worst of the season. Also the most surprising, those names that surprised when no one expected them to. Today we go with the eight revelations of the WTA circuit in that 2025.

And we will find profiles of all kinds, nationalities, and playing styles, although youth will predominantly abound, as usual. One slightly older player has made it onto our list, but you will see that she definitely deserves it. Also, some may have been left out, such as Alexandra Eala, whom we already had our eye on, or Eva Lys, who had a significant rise but never made enough noise on big stages. They have been the 'sacrificed ones' when putting together this list of the eight revelations of 2025 within the women's circuit.

#155 LILLI TAGGER

Who? We start the list with a name that only true fans who go beyond the professional circuit will recognize. An Austrian, 17 years old, Junior Roland Garros champion, and working with a mentor of stature like Francesca Schiavone. Oh, and with a one-handed backhand! She began the season at #780 in the WTA rankings, and look where she ends it, with a spot secured in the Australian Open qualifying. One of those early explosions that make you think that all is not lost yet. Future, future, and more future.

#66 SOLANA SIERRA

Here we are talking about the present, although the Argentine is still only 21 years old. She also made a name for herself in her junior days some time ago, but it was not until 2025 that she finally made the leap to become the main reference in women's tennis in her country. Climbing nearly a hundred positions, Solana reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals, an achievement that helped her establish a new status within the locker room. Still with plenty of room for improvement, one thing is clear: starting to work with the RNA has served her well.

#60 TEREZA VALENTOVA

Once again we turn to the realm of youth to find a Czech player who barely felt the dreaded transition between the junior and professional circuits. We saw her in 2024 winning the Junior Roland Garros, the last tournament she played in that category. After 18 months, still a teenager, she already knows what it's like to win matches in Grand Slam main draws, reach a professional final (Osaka), and break into the top 60. Rushing as if in a hurry, Valentova is the clear example of a tennis player who respects no speed limit.

#53 JANICE TJEN

The Indonesian miracle, I love this nickname. If becoming a professional tennis player is already hard, imagine having humble origins and little sports culture. This was not a problem for Tjen, who jumped from #481 to #53 this season. Maturity arrived at 23, some extra time she needed to find the confidence and the right team. The way she finished the season, winning her first official title in Chennai, appears to be just the beginning of something much greater.

#35 IVA JOVIC

From memory, I think I mentioned this name when I wrote this same article last December. Understandable since at 16 she climbed from #654 in the rankings to #185. And what has she done at 17? Again, she shakes up the rankings and lands at #35 in the world. And yet, so little is being said about Iva Jovic, not even in her own country. With 40 wins this season and her first professional title at the Guadalajara WTA 500, time will tell how much longer the press resists surrendering to a girl who burst into the locker room like a bull in a china shop.

#36 LOIS BOISSON

Sometimes, a single tournament can save your entire season. Imagine making your debut in a Grand Slam and reaching the semifinals, instantly becoming the best female tennis player in France the next day. This was Lois Boisson's experience this spring, a woman born to reign on clay courts. But her breakthrough didn't stop there; she followed up by winning the Hamburg WTA 250 in the summer. Despite injuries preventing her from stepping up another gear, she did enough to finish among the top 40. We will see her in 2026 alongside Carlos Martínez, nothing can go wrong.

#32 MAYA JOINT

A case very similar to Iva Jovic. A young player who made a startling leap in 2024 but didn't falter the following season. In fact, quite the opposite. The Australian was #738 in the rankings two years ago, #116 in the rankings one year ago, and #32 in the world this week. Impossible to do better in 24 months, going from an unknown to a seeded player in the next Grand Slam. Considering she also won the titles in Rabat and Eastbourne this season, there should be no one left without her name already noted in their agenda.

#18 VICTORIA MBOKO

We end with the biggest surprise of all we have seen in 2025. To talk about the Canadian is to talk about someone who in twelve months goes from #336 to #18 in the world, although the most important part is what happened along the way. At the start of the season, she was playing W30 and W60 tournaments. In May, she reached the second round in Rome and the third round at Roland Garros. She also made it to the second round at Wimbledon. Then summer arrived, and there she shone, capturing the Montreal WT 1000, a prophet in her own land, where she opened her title account. At 19, she still had the strength to finish the year with a new title in Hong Kong, securing her spot in the global top 20. A diamond in the rough born to dream limitlessly.
