Bianca Andreescu wants to return to the place she reached on her own merit in 2019, when she surprised everyone by winning the US Open at just 19 years old. However, from that moment onwards, everything went downhill. The Canadian entered a spiral of poor results and injuries that dropped her out of the top 100, leading many to question if she would ever regain her best form. She hasn't achieved it yet, but she believes she can do it with a new mindset and a new outlook on life, after tough years with long absences and unexpected events, like the appendicitis that delayed her return to the courts earlier this year.

Despite being ranked world number 102, Andreescu presents a very positive attitude, accepting the circumstances she has faced in recent years: "Every time I step away from the sport, I learn more about myself. I've been dealing with certain personal issues, and two months ago, I had an appendicitis operation. I was ready for Indian Wells and Miami, but destiny decided I wasn't going to play yet. I accepted the situation and the fact that I would begin on clay courts. The preparation has been great, and I've learned a lot about myself. So I'm super happy to be back," she stated in an interview with Tennis Channel during her stay in Rome, where she reached the quarterfinals (losing to Qinwen Zheng).

She explained her change further: "I have a new mentality, and it makes me feel different every week. I feel like I change as a person all the time, but I have my values, and sometimes starting over can be challenging. But that's life. I never take anything for granted; that's one of the biggest lessons I've learned alongside being patient. I know what I can achieve, obviously, being number one and winning many Grand Slams. But I focus much more on the process; that's very important to me. I haven't enjoyed much in these past years, but now I feel fully committed to that goal, and it feels very good."

Since 2019, she hadn't lifted a trophy, and at the WTA125 in Vic, she broke that streak by winning the doubles alongside Aldila Sutjiadi: "Winning the doubles in Vic has helped me a lot; it was incredible for me because that title ended a six-year drought without winning anything. That moment gave me a lot of confidence, and confidence in oneself, in your shots, and in your tennis, I think that's the key."

Although she also acknowledged that she still needs to improve certain aspects of her game, especially when choosing the best shot for each situation: "100%, that's the most difficult part for me. When I have so many options on the court and I don't know which one to choose. Having confidence back is very important for my game; it's a constant learning process because I still struggle in that aspect. That's why I try to focus on it, especially in training, on choosing the best shot at the right moment and having different tactics that help me build that confidence."

Not only has she changed her way of thinking, but she has also added a discipline and order that can be decisive in today's tennis: "Having good discipline is helping me on the court. Preparation is key, and if I feel well-prepared, I know I will win the match," confesses Andreescu, who is already at Roland Garros. So far, everything is going smoothly, as she won her first qualifying match 6-0, 6-0 against Yao Xinxin.
