Karolina Muchova has had a season of ups and downs, but she is determined to make Asia the stage of her redemption. This is the first time the Czech has won a match at the WTA 1000 in Beijing, adding three more victories, the latest one against Cristina Bucsa. This has led her to face one of the most challenging players: Aryna Sabalenka. Muchova has won the last two out of three encounters, but she should not be swayed by that statistic as the Belarusian is on an impressive streak of 15 consecutive wins.

It's going to be nice to face this challenge and compare my game with hers again. That's what tennis is about. Where else can you learn more than when you challenge the best? So I am very grateful for this opportunity," said the world number 49 to the WTA podcast. At this point, she is very close to being seeded for the Australian Open next year, so having a successful Asian tour will be crucial to achieve that. It hasn't been an easy year either, as a wrist injury kept her off the courts until this summer when she returned at the Eastbourne tournament.

Muchova hasn't been able to go through the season as smoothly as she would have liked, but at least her run at the US Open left her with a good taste regarding Grand Slams. The Czech reached the semifinals, losing to Jessica Pegula, who was having a very good run. "I think the US Open helped me a lot. I played good matches, but I also had to overcome some tough battles," she said before confessing that her wrist is responding quite well at the moment. “Before the tournament, I had a practice session with Iga Swiatek, which helped me a lot to see how I could play and handle the situation. Then, when you play a few matches, that always helps build confidence. With the wrist, I felt I could play freely again and have a full swing. I'm glad I learned so quickly".

Accustomed to long periods without playing and getting back on track

"I have probably gotten used to this a bit because I've had many pauses like this in the past. I am used to not playing and then playing again. I am happy that things are going as they are. When I started in Eastbourne, I honestly didn't know what my level was. At Wimbledon, I felt I wasn't there yet. When I was practicing with the girls, they played faster, but I caught up quickly. Deep down, I knew I had the level.".
