The controversy over the doubles circuit reform continues to generate reactions at Wimbledon. The latest to be asked about the reforms that the ATP wants to implement in this format was Alex de Miñaur. The Australian, who has been almost exclusively focused on singles for years, admitted that he does not have all the necessary information to take a stance, although he understands that the decisions made are for specific reasons.
"I have heard about the issue, like everyone else," explained the Australian number one when asked about the situation the doubles format is going through.

De Miñaur made it clear that he is not part of the meetings where these kinds of changes are discussed and, therefore, does not think it appropriate to issue a firm opinion. "I am a singles player. I play doubles occasionally, but I am not in those meetings or making those decisions. I don't have much to say or contribute on that. In a way, I do what I'm told."
"For many years, my calendar has practically consisted of playing singles. It has been a long time since I played doubles in a Grand Slam. My true goal is singles, and I just try to do my best in that format."
Nevertheless, the current Australian number one believes that the debate should be analyzed from an objective standpoint. "We need to look at the numbers. I don't have the data in front of me. If everything was working well, I suppose these cutbacks wouldn't have been considered."
Finally, he wanted to show his respect for doubles players, highlighting the effort they make each season. "I know many of those players. They train, dedicate hours to their work, and go through the same preparation as any other player. Obviously, it's not pleasant to see a situation like this, but it probably all comes down to numbers. I suppose that if these decisions have been made, it's for some reason."
