Alexander Zverev is going through one of the best moments of his career, and a large part of that change, as he himself acknowledges, began far from the courts. The German opened up again in an interview with RTL+ about the difficult period he went through after losing the final of the Australian Open against Jannik Sinner and explained how the conversations he had with Toni Nadal and Rafa Nadal in Mallorca helped him regain confidence when he felt he had hit rock bottom.

"It all began after that final. I thought maybe I would never be able to win a Grand Slam. I was the world number two, playing great tennis, and yet I lost the final in three sets. I felt like I didn't know what else I could do," confessed the German.

That defeat left a much deeper mark than the results reflected. "That feeling lasted for nine or ten months. I started playing worse, struggled to find motivation to train, and often felt completely alone on the court. Neither a coach, nor my parents, nor my partner could help me because you are simply lost," Zverev acknowledged.

The trip to Mallorca and his stay at the Rafa Nadal Academy, what changed Zverev's dynamic

It was then that he decided to travel to Mallorca to seek the advice of two people who knew perfectly well how to overcome crises. "Last summer, I went to Mallorca to talk to Toni and Rafa Nadal, and they helped me a lot," he explained.

A conversation with the Spanish champion was especially important. "Rafa told me that he had also gone through a similar stage when he started losing many matches against Djokovic before finding the solution," recalled the German.

Those words changed his perspective. "At the end of the season, I decided to change some things in my game and become a different player. It has worked this year," he stated.

The statements highlight the tremendous influence that Rafa and Toni Nadal continue to have within the tennis world. Even for a player of Zverev's caliber, the experience of those who have already overcome similar situations ultimately proved to be the necessary boost to believe again that he could aspire to the highest.
