Casper Ruud has never hidden that grass is the surface that least suits his tennis. The Norwegian, a three-time Grand Slam finalist and former world number two, faces a new edition of Wimbledon cautiously but also with a sense that the time has come to take a step forward in the only major event that still eludes him.
In statements to Tennis365, the current number 12 in the rankings explained his goals on the London grass and once again confessed his unique way of preparing for this part of the season. "I've never made it past the second round, so we can start from there. Anything better than that would already be a success," he joked.

The Norwegian also explained why he continues to prioritize taking a break between Roland Garros and Wimbledon, a routine he has maintained for the last few seasons. "The clay court season is very demanding. Going straight from Roland Garros to the warm-up tournaments and then Wimbledon would be detrimental for the rest of the season. I prefer to take a breather between Paris and Wimbledon, clear my mind and refocus on both this tournament and the rest of the year."
Despite this, Ruud admits that every season he feels a greater motivation to achieve a good result on the London grass. "I am at an important point in my career. I don't feel like time is running out, but every passing year I want to try to achieve a great result here."
He even went a step further by revealing his long-term goal at Wimbledon. "Perhaps my big goal in the long run, even a lifetime goal within my career, is to reach the second week of Wimbledon."
The journey won't be easy. The draw has set him up for a tough opener against the Polish player Hubert Hurkacz, one of the most dangerous players on the grass circuit and a former tournament semifinalist. It will be a high-stakes test to see if Ruud can finally break his personal barrier at the All England Club.
