Marta Kostyuk, currently ranked 28th in the world in the WTA Ranking, will end her season at the upcoming WTA Wuhan 2025. The WTA 1000 tournament will be a turning point for the Ukrainian player, facing a tough challenge as she debuts against Karolina Muchova, the 12th seed.

Open and self-critical at all times, Kostyuk confessed in the days leading up to her debut at the WTA Wuhan 2025 that her season has not lived up to the expectations she had before it began, although she remains optimistic about achieving her goals in the future.

"This is my last tournament of the year, and here you start thinking about everything you have done over the months and if you could have done it better," Marta Kostyuk confessed in statements to Tennis365, reflecting on her season in 2025, a year in which, with few exceptions, she has not been able to showcase her best game.

"This year I have evolved a lot off the court in how I do things and face life, but I feel like I hit a wall many times. I lost many matches against top 10 players, especially in Grand Slam tournaments. I reached far in all of them and just couldn't overcome those great players."

"Most of the time I was very close, and as the year ends, it has been frustrating. I had a very consistent year, and that is a good sign, but overall, I feel like I lacked taking the final two steps to surpass these players. It requires patience and waiting for everything to turn in your favor, and I think it will happen.

This year has many positives, but I had some struggles with injuries and somehow found a way to push through and play. Overall, it was a good year, but I ended up where I am, and certainly, it was not good enough for me," admitted the Ukrainian tennis player.

"The goal will always be to win Grand Slams. That has been my goal for a long time, and I still want to maintain consistency and try to finish the year in the top ten. I don't like setting ranking goals since that's just the result of my work. I simply need to try to improve what I need to next year to aim for the next level."
