Jannik Sinner is very much alive. Even though there is a feeling that Carlos Alcaraz may be slightly ahead of him, as seen in the US Open final, the Italian continues on his path, winning matches and tournaments, proving he excels on hard courts. This was evident in the ATP Beijing final against Learner Tien, where he didn't give any chances (6-2, 6-2).

With the trophy from the ATP Beijing, Jannik Sinner adds his third title of the season after the Australian Open and Wimbledon, ranking 18th on hardcourt out of the 21 titles he has. Additionally, the world number two always performs well in this final part of the season. In 2023, he conquered this title, along with Vienna and the Davis Cup. Last year, he won the Shanghai Masters 1000, reached the Beijing final, won the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup again.

During the press conference following his victory, he explained the importance of the Beijing tournament to him. He also shared his views on some players choosing to skip tournaments and his comparison to Novak Djokovic.

Grateful for the support in China

"I feel that the audience here has always been very special to me, even from a couple of years ago when I first arrived. Returning to win a title where I had won before is a very special feeling, isn't it? Undoubtedly, a couple of years ago was a turning point in my career, playing great tennis against tough opponents. I will always remember this. Coming back here and winning again, it's very beautiful. Yes, the support has been incredible from day one. Seeing the stadium full for the final is amazing."

Success in Beijing, as Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic had in their day

"Of course, it's fantastic to have my name next to theirs. At the same time, as I always say, each one is different, each one tries to forge their own path and professional career. I don't know how many times they've actually played here. But for me, this will always be a beautiful tournament, no matter what happens in the future. It's very unusual to arrive at a place for the first time and win straight away. That's what happened to me here. Now I have reached three consecutive finals in three years. It means I really enjoy playing tennis here. I feel very comfortable. Yes, it's also nice to see other great players having played here, in this stadium."

On an increasingly packed calendar

"I have skipped many tournaments already. Last year, for example, I didn't play a couple of tournaments. Obviously, it depends on the results you get. If you go deep in tournaments, as Carlos has done this season, where basically every time you play you reach at least the final, tournaments also become longer. The Masters 1000 are also quite long. They are not one-week events but basically two-week events."

"Yes, at some point, I feel you have to skip some tournaments. But everyone thinks differently, right? In my case, last year I skipped a couple of tournaments because I believed it was best for my body and mind, and  this year I also didn't play in Toronto. That's why I say, yes, they are mandatory, but at the end of the day, you can choose. I have always chosen and will continue to choose what's best for me."

About managing tournaments to be in the best possible shape

"It's difficult. I think we managed the season very well last year too. I played incredibly well towards the end of the season because I made some decisions early on and didn't play a couple of tournaments. I'm not saying it's the right or wrong decision. You never know. What I try to do is understand. When you're 23 or 24 years old, it's very difficult to fully understand your body and mind and know what's best for you because you're still young. That's why it's important to surround yourself with the best people possible, guiding you at times. This year has been somewhat different. It hasn't been easy. But at the same time, I have used this time to work on some things. We have been training very hard. I feel that physically, I'm slightly improving each time."

Avoiding comparisons with the Big 3

"I always say that comparing myself to Novak is like comparing myself to someone from a different league, with all that he has achieved in his career. I'm just a normal 24-year-old guy trying to play tennis as best as I can. I know I have won some important titles in my young career, but we will see how long I can maintain it. What Novak, Rafa, and Roger have done for over 15 years is incredible. Novak is still here, playing incredible tennis. So, we'll see. But I don't compare myself to them. I'm here to play. I'm here to enjoy. I'm also happy to say that I have won twice here. Whether it stays at two? If there are more, will I be happier? I don't know if I'll be happier. I don't know. I'm very happy to say I have won here twice, then we'll see in the future," states a Jannik Sinner who follows in the footsteps of Carlos Alcaraz and will fight to take the world number one spot before the end of this season.
