The withdrawal of Carlos Alcaraz from the Mutua Madrid Open came as a cold shower to the tournament organizers, who saw the main attraction unable to play at the Caja Mágica after experiencing discomfort in the final of the Conde de Godó. The player from Murcia competed in 10 matches in 12 days, and his body is asking for rest. Addressing the choice of tournaments and matches, Feliciano López, the director of the Madrid tournament, commented in an interview with Partidazo de la COPE: "You have to know where to play, especially for players like Carlitos, who have the opportunity to win the title every week. I'm not saying that playing Barcelona and Monte Carlo was the only reason, but it has an influence," stated the Spaniard.
