Lorenzo Musetti announced this Saturday the end of his professional relationship with the Spanish coach José Perlas. The Italian made the decision public through a statement on his social networks, in which he thanked the work done by the Catalan coach and highlighted the mutual respect with which both parties have decided to go their separate ways.
Perlas joined Musetti's team at the end of 2025 with the aim of bringing a new perspective to the Italian's tennis, not replacing Simone Tartarini, his lifelong coach, but complementing his work. The arrival of the Spanish coach, one of the most prestigious trainers on the circuit with a successful track record alongside Carlos Moyá, Albert Costa, Guillermo Coria, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Nicolás Almagro, was seen as a step forward in Carrara's player's ambition to establish himself among the best in the world.
A statement written from gratitude and affection
Although the partnership has lasted only a few months, Musetti wanted to bid farewell to Perlas with words of gratitude, emphasizing the professionalism and commitment shown during this period. The Italian did not explain the specific reasons for the breakup, which comes at a difficult time after a season marked by physical problems. A muscle injury in his thigh forced him to miss Roland Garros and also Wimbledon, halting the progress he had shown at the beginning of the season.

Musetti will now continue working with Tartarini, the figure who has guided his entire career from the youth categories. The Italian is thus entering a new phase with the goal of regaining his best level once the physical issues are overcome, while the brief experience with José Perlas comes to an end before completing even a season on the circuit.
