Martín Landaluce is getting a taste for grass. After a successful clay court season, with quarterfinals in Rome and the third round in Roland Garros as his best results, the Madrid native ventured onto a surface that was unknown to him so far and always demanding. He started at the ATP Stuttgart 2026, where he came close to causing an upset against Taylor Fritz, and now, at ATP Halle, he confirms that he has adapted perfectly.

His qualification for the main draw of ATP Halle confirms Martín Landaluce's good form

Despite being ranked 58th in the world, the Spaniard had to go through the qualifying rounds due to the reduced main draw in Halle. However, far from being a problem, it has helped him get into the rhythm on grass. Although he was on the brink of exiting in his first match, where he saved two match points against Marc Huesler (3-6, 6-3, 7-6(8)), in his last match to secure a spot in the main draw, he left no chance for Tom Gentzsch (7-5, 6-3).

In this way, Landaluce advances into the main draw, where he will debut against the Frenchman Terence Atmane. In the case of a victory, he would face the winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev and Tomás Martín Etcheverry. In a hypothetical match against the Russian, the Spaniard would have a golden opportunity to redeem himself from their previous encounter at the Rome Masters 1000, where the Madrilenian suffered an initial 6-1 setback and was very close to victory.

Yet, on grass, Medvedev's tennis is entirely different from that on clay, much more aggressive and lethal. Nonetheless, Landaluce is proving this year, time and again, that he has the game to compete and win against anyone. So, this ATP Halle will be another significant test to arrive in the best possible shape at Wimbledon.
