After an Asian tour with a strong Spanish accent, featuring the two titles of Alejandro Davidovich (ATP 250 Chengdu and Masters 1000 in Shanghai) and the one of Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 500 Tokyo), men's tennis returns to Europe for the final stretch of the season with the indoor hard court tour. In light of these recent weeks of competition, Alcaraz and Dani Mérida have trained together at the Murcia tennis club.

Both players will participate next week in the ATP 500 in Vienna, although Alcaraz will join at the last minute after the cancellation of the Six Kings Slam and receiving an invitation from the Austrian tournament. Both he and Mérida aim to finish the year with the best possible feelings and also with an eye on the Davis Cup finals.

Alcaraz is guaranteed to be present at the Davis Cup finals, and Mérida will fight for a spot

If Alcaraz avoids any injuries like last year, he will be the number one racket for David Ferrer in the quest for Spain's seventh salad bowl. However, Mérida's presence is still a mystery. Despite performing well in his debut last September against Chile, where he secured the first point against Alejandro Tabilo, the great form of Rafael Jódar, who will presumably be second, and Davidovich, who could be the fifth selected, would close the doors for the Madrid native.

Therefore, he has the opportunity in these last tournaments of the year to convince Ferrer. In addition to the ATP 500 in Vienna, he will also compete in the Masters 1000 in Paris, where he managed to enter the final draw without needing to go through the qualifying round after Jannik Sinner's withdrawal. Nevertheless, regardless of Ferrer's decision, Mérida will end an outstanding year with his first ATP title (Umag) and within the Top 50.
