Wawrinka already knows when and how his farewell from tennis will be.

Stan Wawrinka now has a confirmed farewell date from this sport. The Swiss player will make a final appearance on the court at the end of 2026 to conclude his sports career, in a very special evening that already has a location, date, and companions for a last dance that will surely be unforgettable. Yes, his farewell at the ATP level will take place in just a week, at the ATP Basel 2026 tournament; we all thought it would be the last time we would see him in action, but Stan has surprised us with a new appointment that we will be closely following.

The Lausanne native will bid farewell right at home, in front of his audience: the Palexpo in Geneva has been chosen for a celebration of two decades of quality and abundant tennis. It will not be just any occasion: it will take place on Saturday, December 19, a date we must mark on our calendars now. Why? Pay attention to the guests Stan will have, as we imagine for a doubles match (or several, as needed): Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Gaël Monfils. Quite something.

Monfils returns to the court after his breakup with Svitolina

The confirmed presence of the French tennis player is surprising, as he abruptly withdrew from Lyon and Paris, denying us the opportunity to see him bid farewell to the circuit in a professional match. Hours later, we learned that this decision was a consequence of his separation from his partner, Elina Svitolina, which led the Frenchman to completely step back from tennis.

We will see Gaël back on the court, promising a show... and also a Federer, whom we have seen intermittently in some exhibitions this season, increasingly eager to hit the ball and regain the magic of playing this sport. Another who still has the itch is Murray, who has starred in some of the most unforgettable battles of Stan’s career. In short, grab the popcorn and don’t miss it: this last dance will be worth it.
