Sabalenka anticipates where her wedding will be and makes a promise: "It's going to be a really fun party"

A comfortable victory for the Belarusian allowed her to continue progressing in Cincinnati, although her mind is already starting to think about the ceremony that will take place in a few months with her fiancé.

Aryna Sabalenka had a quiet day at the office, just as most days in this job should be, which she has been leading for over two years. After advancing to the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, the Belarusian had the space to show her best side on the Tennis Channel.

There, she talked about her victory against Xin Yu Wang, of course, but players don’t live on tennis alone. The current number one wanted to reveal some details about the party she is planning for her wedding with her partner in the medium term. They have even chosen a location: Greece. There, they will declare their love forever, a day that Sabalenka has been dreaming of for a very long time, although some say that this topic may have distracted her too much in recent months.

Aryna Sabalenka explains her rebuilding in Cincinnati

“I think the key today was that I was really focused point by point. When you win your service games, it’s a little easier than usual and gives you a bit more confidence to go for your shots in return games. After that, you simply feel really good and can focus on every point, play freely, and enjoy it. I think the real key was that I was truly concentrated on each point. I’m trying to rebuild myself. It’s been a bit of a downhill path during the summer, so right now we’re trying to reconstruct everything, and then we’ll think about what else we can add to my game. I can’t complain about this result, but I try to stay focused, point by point and match by match. I don’t think about confidence because it’s something that comes and goes. I think it’s important to really trust yourself, and that’s what I’m working on.”

Sabalenka reveals details about her wedding in Greece

“I’m just saving things. I have a wedding folder on Instagram where I save inspirations that I like. That’s the point we’re at. Giorgio has been very smart about it, letting me decide what I want. There are a few things he says: ‘Okay, this has to be there’, and I respond: ‘Yes, fine, whatever’. For now, we’ll hold it in Greece. I just want to throw a really fun party so that everyone can have a good time and enjoy themselves. That’s it, and I truly hope it will be that way. I don’t know if doing a live report from Greece would be such a bright idea, because I feel like I’m going to be drinking and there may be some alcohol on the table. Of course, there will be lots of margaritas.”

Tennis and enjoyment

“I think when I really enjoy myself, it doesn’t matter if it’s tough matches or encounters of less than an hour. As long as I enjoy it, that’s an energy boost for me. So far, everything is going well. I don’t want to say too much because I feel like every time I talk too much, everything disappears, so I just try to stay focused. Yesterday, I spent about half a day at home, training a bit, and the rest of the day walking around, meeting a lot of friends and many dogs from our neighborhood. It’s been quite a peaceful few days.”

Her fun side

“I love my new equipment. I literally look like a basketball hoop and also a ball. It’s orange. It’s something different, and I really like it. I have to say I’m very good at shooting, but my technique is embarrassing. If any basketball player saw my technique, I think they’d say: ‘Girl, we need to fix this.’ When I try to use the technique they use, the ball goes everywhere, but with two hands, I have more control. I’m good with threes. What works, right?”

Her next challenge

“Bejlek is a great player. In fact, I watched a bit of her match, and she’s moving very well. She’s super motivated and playing point by point. It’s going to be a great battle, and I’m looking forward to facing her.”
