Marc-Andrea Huesler hangs up his racket at just 30 years old and bids farewell after coming close to one last title

Marc-Andrea Huesler has put an end to his professional tennis career at just 30 years old. The Swiss player chose the Challenger in Zug, his home country, as the stage for his farewell and came very close to bidding adieu in the best possible way, reaching the final before succumbing to Thiago Seyboth Wild by 6-4 and 6-3.

A competitive farewell for a player who reached the ATP ranking of 47 and leaves tennis with the feeling of not having fully exploited his potential. Huesler had an aggressive style of play, relying on his left-handedness and a powerful serve, but he never managed to establish himself in the elite for an extended period.

A career with an ATP title and an interesting pending record

The highlight of his career came in 2022 when he won the ATP 250 in Sofia. That success seemed to open doors to higher achievements and played a decisive role in subsequently reaching his best historical ranking.

However, there was a barrier he never managed to break. Despite competing in numerous major tournaments, Huesler never won a Grand Slam match in the main draw. A particularly striking statistic considering he concludes his career with 32 official ATP victories against 54 defeats.

His last tournament at least provided an image in line with the level he had reached. Huesler managed to reach the final in Zug, having the opportunity to bid farewell with a trophy in front of his fellow countrymen. Seyboth Wild prevented a perfect ending, but not the Swiss from concluding his professional phase by competing for a title.

At 30 years old, a relatively young age by today's standards, Huesler decides to embark on another path. He leaves having experienced the Top-50 and lifted an ATP title, though with some pending goals reflecting the enormous challenge of consolidating at the highest level.
