Popyrin delivers and emerges as a threat to Sinner in the second round

When we saw the draw, all eyes were on that possible second round that could match Jannik Sinner in this US Open, and the predictions have come true. Alexei Popyrin defeated Emil Ruusuvuori in three sets, 6-3 6-4 7-6, preventing the match from slipping out of his hands, setting up a clash with the Italian next Thursday. Popyrin, who pulled off one of the biggest upsets last year by knocking out Djokovic in the third round, poses a real threat to Sinner. The Australian has the quality to be seeded, making it a tougher match than expected at this stage of the tournament for the top seed.
