Iga Swiatek has not played a professional final since June, and the urgency in her environment seems to increase every passing week. At the Miami Open 2025, things have started well for the Pole, although from tomorrow onwards, the path becomes filled with challenges. Elina Svitolina awaits her in the round of 16, and moreover in the night session, one of those matches so appealing that can set the course for a player in the upcoming days. Before enjoying the evening, we listen to the World No. 2 talk about her current moment, her tennis, and even the latest record she has achieved on the tour.

Victory over Mertens

"I am very pleased with my performance, especially because I have been patient after making some unforced errors early in the first set. I was able to recover from that situation and then raise my level when the tiebreak arrived. I take that with me, I am happy for keeping calm in the most agitated moments of the match, it hasn't been easy for me in these last months, so I want to focus on the right things. Winning today in straight sets is good news."

No time to work on her tennis

"I always try to work on many things during the preseasons, we know that throughout the year there is barely any time to train and improve certain aspects. When you do well in tournaments, reaching quarterfinals, semifinals, or final, there is hardly time to land in the next tournament and adapt to the new conditions, but this is a challenge that all players must face. You also can't multiply your training time, you have to arrive healthy and fresh for each battle. Undoubtedly, finding that balance is complicated, but I think coaches help us a lot in that sense. This is what it is, you have to work to adapt as best as you can."

25 consecutive appearances in R16 of WTA 1000

"I don't know how to react to this data, it's difficult. I just try to focus on my next match, I never take anything for granted. Even though I am usually a seed player, I know that every opponent will always come onto the court attentive and prepared, regardless of their ranking. Now that I think about it, I don't believe it's that difficult, although I acknowledge that winning all those matches is not easy. I'm sure that at some point I will run into trouble in an upcoming tournament, but for now, I'm happy to show that consistency, it has always been a goal for me."

The No. 1 ranking does not bother her

"Of course, it matters to me, it's something we work for. Mathematically, it will be difficult to regain it in the short term, even if I were to win all the tournaments. It's a topic I have come to terms with, I know there will be moments where I won't be able to replace all those points, that's the consequence of winning a lot in the past season during the same period. Now I just focus on my work, on whether I will play well or not. Aryna is also playing well, no one expects her to suddenly drop, I think both of us are competing at a similar level, so we deserve to fight for that position. Honestly, I'm not thinking about it, I focus on being a better tennis player, it's the healthiest way to approach each day."

Svitolina tomorrow in the night session

"It will be different due to the time, but you have to adapt, sometimes it's easier, other times it's harder. We'll see, I won't dwell on it too much, I'll just do what I always do when playing in the night session, we'll see if that means my game will be different or not. The conditions will be different, that's for sure, so that will have to be taken into account."
