At 34 years old, Caroline Wozniacki proves that she still enjoys tennis as if it were a decade ago. Already in the round of 16 at the US Open 2024, the Danish player, ranked 71st in the world and finalist in New York in 2009 and 2014, demonstrates her high level of tennis in this tournament where she has yet to drop a set. The former world number one explains to the media how she is handling her second tennis life, what her current goals are, and what has changed compared to a few years ago.

Family Balance

"Of course, marriage is a big deal, and I am very happily married, but when you get married, that doesn't really change your preparation for training, matches, or days off. Having children is a big difference. Obviously, my kids are there every day, and I appreciate that a lot. It's the best job in the world, and I love it. I try to ensure that I remain a fully present mother while also trying to balance being the best tennis player I can be. I think that's where it can get a bit tricky sometimes," Caroline explains in a press conference.

"My family is the most important thing to me, but at the same time, I love winning. I have to find the balance between dedicating time to myself, recovering, playing, and training as much as I can, and not feeling guilty about taking a few hours away from the kids. I think sometimes I feel guilty, but I try to manage it as best as I can."

Expectations and Goals at this Stage of her Career

"For me, at this stage, it's very different from what it was before. I now try to peak at the Grand Slams. Before, I was fresh and ready to play every tournament. Now I use every tournament I play as preparation for the Grand Slams, and that's my main objective. That's where I want to be, that's where I know that if I play every two days, I can prepare, and my body can be ready to play at 100% every match. That's my mentality. I think the most realistic thing I can do now is focus on the Grand Slams and how to play my best at those moments."

How Different is Caroline Now Compared to when she was 20/25?

"Throughout my career, I have always woken up every day with some pain, but it was manageable, and now, as I age, sometimes it's not as manageable. That's the difference; I need to be careful and take care of every little thing because it quickly becomes a big thing. That's the most important. I feel that I'm no longer 20 years old and that I don't recover like a twenty-year-old. In my head, I can still feel like I'm 20, and sometimes when I move on the court, I think, I've still got it, but I'm definitely paying a lot more for some of those movements that I probably didn't before."

How is she feeling physically?

"From one day to the next, I could give a very different answer, but today I feel much better than yesterday and the day before, so we're heading in the right direction. I think tomorrow I'll feel much better than today. My arm feels much better, my back feels pretty good. We're on the right track. I hope to train well tomorrow, get into a rhythm, and move forward."
