It wasn't meant to be. It seemed like the hardest part had already been accomplished and that Rafael Nadal wouldn't let the chance slip to add a new trophy to his collection at this ATP 250 Bastad 2024, but the Spaniard was clearly surpassed by a Nuno Borges who exposed doubts in Nadal's game and his physical and mental fatigue. Nadal had been out of competition for a long time, making it challenging to face so many consecutive days with maximum demand, being far from his best level in this final.

He tried to stay in the match with two breaks, but Borges perfectly read the game and remained composed. The Spaniard was slow in his movements and fell short in all his shots, trailing behind all the time.

The second set was even more painful for Rafael Nadal, who seemed to lack any arguments to counter the spectacular level of the Portuguese. Errors piled up inevitably when he tried to be more aggressive and ended up frustrated by the lack of opportunities.
