Madison Keys continues to advance steadily in Wimbledon. The American secured her spot in the round of 16 after a commanding victory over Amanda Anisimova, reaching the second week of a Grand Slam for the 25th time in her career.

Despite over a decade competing at the elite level, the match against Anisimova held special significance for Keys. At 31 years old, she played for the first time on the Centre Court at Wimbledon, an experience she had been eagerly anticipating. Far from feeling intimidated by the stage, she decided to enjoy every second of the journey to the court. Additionally, Keys emphasized the importance of returning to the top 16 of a Grand Slam, a goal she set from the beginning of her career and considers one of her greatest achievements.

With the confidence from her recent title in Eastbourne and her excellent form on grass, Keys heads into the second week convinced that a completely different tournament awaits her now.

Madison Keys and a highly anticipated debut on the Centre Court

"I was very happy to finally play my first match on the Centre Court. As I walked through the halls, looking at all the pictures on the walls, I thought: 'I've never seen this'. I wouldn't say it was intimidating, it was just a lot of fun to experience that for the first time. When I saw the schedule, I was extremely excited. I messaged our podcast group and said, 'I'm going to play on the Centre Court at Wimbledon! This is crazy'. Everyone was surprised when I mentioned I had never played there before."

A specialist in advancing in Grand Slams

"It's something I'm incredibly proud of. If someone had told me when I started my career that I would still be doing this many years later, it would probably be one of the things that excited me the most. I always wanted to be a player capable of consistently competing in the final rounds of Grand Slams. However, I am aware that this is just the first barrier. From now on, each round is like a different tournament."

The key to overcoming Anisimova

"I felt that the match would be decided by who capitalized on break opportunities first; we weren't going to have 45-shot rallies. After the first set, I stopped thinking that I needed to break her serve no matter what. My goal became simply reaching 30-30 in her service games to put a bit more pressure on her, and I think focusing on that helped me a lot."

Noskova, her opponent in the round of 16

"In theory, having played against another big hitter helps; at least I know the type of ball I'm going to face, but Linda is in a fantastic moment. She just entered the top 10, won Berlin, and defeated top players. I know it will be a different and very challenging match."
