Aryna Sabalenka has started her journey at Wimbledon 2026 in style, with a resounding victory against Teodora Kostovic with a score of 6-2 6-3 in just 1 hour of play where she didn't give any chances to the Serbian player, who was merely a bystander in the show put on by the world's number 1. 

5 breaks were made by Sabalenka throughout the match to confirm that, despite her poor streak of results, she is one of the top contenders to win the title at the All England Club once again. Her grass-court game is a threat thanks to her strong serve and flat shots both on the forehand and backhand, making her very difficult to overpower on her good days. In fact, her biggest rival remains herself and those mental lapses that cause her to lose more matches than necessary. 

The mystery surrounding Sabalenka

Those same lapses are what prevented her from closing out the match at 5-2 and with her serve, after not conceding a single break point throughout the game. However, Kostovic's joy was short-lived, as Aryna promptly broke her serve again to seal the match and secure her spot in the second round of Wimbledon.

After losing the Australian Open final against Elena Rybakina and exiting early at Roland Garros against Diana Shnaider, Sabalenka has admitted to having to visit a psychiatrist for her mental health issues, given the immense pressure she faces. Therefore, it remains a mystery what her performance at Wimbledon will be like, considering that her grass swing hasn't been good and if Rybakina advances far in the tournament and she, at the very least, doesn't match last year's semifinals, she could lose her reign in women's tennis.
