Milos Raonic, ex-number three in the world and finalist at Wimbledon in 2016, announced that he is ending his sports career in the world of tennis. Social media was the chosen platform by the former Canadian player to communicate his official retirement after nearly 20 years on the circuit.
The last seasons have not been easy for Raonic, constantly forced to recover from injuries, even going a year without touching a ball. After a final attempt in 2024, the American player did not play any matches in the past 2025, making this retirement an open secret.
"The time has come, I retire from tennis. It's a moment you know will come someday, but for some reason, you never feel fully prepared. I am more prepared than ever. Tennis has been my passion and obsession for most of my life," Milos said through his social media.
"I have been the luckiest person to have been able to live and fulfill my dreams. I was able to show up every day, focus on improving, see where that would take me, and play a sport I stumbled upon at 8 years old by pure chance. Somehow, this became my obsession and my childhood, and then my profession and my life."

"I am grateful for the incredible fans I could compete and train in front of all around the world. They could see me shine at my best and handle the toughest moments on the court. They saw me grow. Thank you to each and every one who stopped, even for a moment, to watch and support me.
Thanks to my coaches and my team, who took time away from their families and homes to accompany me on the journey as I pursued my dreams and goals. I appreciate their guidance and teachings. Thanks to the ATP Tour, the ITF, and all the Grand Slams. I dreamed of playing in the big tournaments and I got to live those incredible experiences surrounded by exceptional people who strive for the best in tennis. Thanks to all my colleagues and rivals. I admired you in my childhood, throughout my career, and I will continue admiring you as a fan. I became the best player possible, a better person, and learned many of life's most important lessons thanks to the challenges of competing against you week after week for over two decades.
Thank you, Canada. My family and I came over 30 years ago. Thanks to you, I dedicated myself to tennis, thanks to you, my family's life changed, and I enjoyed every moment of representing Canada worldwide. Mom, Dad, Jelena, and Momir, I am deeply grateful for you putting aside your lives many times so I could pursue a dream. It was only possible to make it a reality because of you. None of this is possible without the constant effort and emotional support you gave to my dreams. While I am lucky to have discovered tennis, it doesn't compare to the luck I have in having you as parents, sister, and brother. I hope to make my wife and son proud every day and hope to be for them the kind of family mine was for me.
A great part of my tennis journey has been the incredible people I have been fortunate to meet around the world. Many times, they have been wonderful mentors who have given me the time and guidance to unravel the rest of my life. I thank them for making many of life's most important questions more bearable. Their attention and time have made this process much clearer and inspiring. What comes next? I am not going to slow down. There is so much life ahead, and I am as motivated and eager as in 2011 when I took off on the circuit. I will put the same effort and intensity into what's coming next. If I manage to achieve the same excellence as with tennis, striving to be better every day, we will see where it takes me."
