After his brief stint in Shanghai, where he fell in the first round against Hubert Hurkacz, but with the title from Beijing under his belt, Djokovic began an indoor hard court tour in Europe earlier than expected due to the postponement of the Six Kings Slam. Therefore, he received a last-minute invitation to the ATP 500 in Basel, where he debuted with a tough victory against Ugo Humbert 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
But his opponent in the round of 16 will be equally demanding or more. Jan-Lennard Struff arrives in Basel after reaching the final at the ATP 250 in Brussels and defeating his compatriot Yannick Hanfmann in his debut at the Swiss tournament (6-4, 6-3). This will be the ninth encounter between the Serbian and the German, with Djokovic holding a clear dominance (8-0).
