Stefanos Tsitsipas is in the process of returning to a high competitive level, as evidenced by his level of play at the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai 2026. The promising signs shown at the US Open are being backed up with a tour in Asia where he has reached a higher status in this event by being able to defeat Taylor Fritz.

This victory is one of the most notable for the Greek in recent times and represents a tremendous boost in morale and confidence for a man who is reinventing himself. Under the guidance of Mouratoglou and having distanced himself from his father, Stefanos seems to have regained his joy on the court, playing with fluidity and ease, unleashing the infinite technical and tactical arguments he possesses.

Few could foresee that Fritz, fully involved in the fight for a spot in the ATP Finals, would capitulate in this manner against the Hellenic player, even more so after winning the first set. However, Tsitsipas reacted masterfully to ultimately win 3-6 7-5 6-2, which represents a significant statement in this exciting process he is undergoing.

The main goal of the Greek player in this final stretch of the season is to secure a seed for the Australian Open 2027, as he himself has stated on more than one occasion. With this victory, he ranks 38th in the world and causes Fritz to lose ground in his fight for a place in the ATP Finals, benefiting players like Djokovic and Jódar.

Looking ahead to the round of 16, Stefanos Tsitsipas is already waiting for the winner of the clash between Medvedev and Svricina, which could be another match against the Russian. Their close rivalry and the potential for improvement in their relationship would make this encounter tremendously interesting from a media perspective.
