Spanish tennis suffers another setback ahead of ATP Montreal 2026

The ATP Montreal 2026 Masters 1000 continues to lose important players. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has decided to withdraw from the Canadian tournament, becoming the fourth notable absence after the already confirmed withdrawals of Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic. A surprising decision as many saw the weakened field as a great opportunity for the Spaniard to achieve a good result.

Davidovich's withdrawal can be understood due to the accumulated fatigue and physical discomfort he seems to be carrying after a demanding grass-court season. His subsequent participation in Umag also did not help dispel doubts about his condition.

Particularly striking was his defeat against Alex Molcan in the Croatian tournament. Davidovich displayed odd sensations during a match where he never seemed comfortable, fueling doubts about potential physical problems. For Davidovich, giving up is not an easy decision either. With three of the top players absent, Montreal could have been an extraordinary opportunity to earn many points.
