Federer chooses his favorite match in Wimbledon history

Roger Federer once again captured all the attention during his visit to Wimbledon 2026. The eight-time champion of the tournament attended the All England Club as a guest in the Royal Box and, in addition to receiving the affection of the fans, participated in a conversation with British Vogue where he was asked about the best match in the history of the tournament.

Far from choosing any of his unforgettable matches against Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic, the Swiss pointed out without hesitation the legendary 1980 final between Björn Borg and John McEnroe. "I have to stick with Borg and McEnroe, two of my favorite players of all time," explained Federer. "I think it's the most iconic match of Wimbledon."

Federer's choice aligns with the opinion of many fans and historians, who consider that duel as one of the best matches ever played thanks, among other things, to the unforgettable tiebreak in the fourth set before Borg secured his fifth consecutive title in London.

The Swiss also talked about the tributes that await him this summer. Firstly, his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. "It will be a very special moment. I will be able to thank all the people who helped me throughout my career, and I think it will be very emotional," he confessed.

Furthermore, he confirmed that he will pick up the racket again during the week leading up to the US Open, where he will play an exhibition match alongside legends such as Andy Roddick, John McEnroe, and Andre Agassi. "It will be amazing to return to the Arthur Ashe Stadium and reminisce about all the great moments I lived there," he concluded.
