Arthur Cazaux is in the midst of his recovery process after getting injured again this season. At 23 years old, Arthur is opting for patience before returning to the tour.

How well Arthur Cazaux plays and how poorly fate is treating him. And us, as it doesn't allow us to enjoy his class. That right elbow has not stopped causing him trouble, until it finally forced him to stop last March. Now that he has made the decision to undergo surgery – the most challenging part at only 23 years old – the Frenchman is now solely focused on healing that injury properly and coming back much stronger in 2027. A recent interview with L’Equipe helped us better understand his reality, learn the reasons for his split with Sam Sumyk, and the long-term dreams he still holds.

Arthur Cazaux reveals the progress of his recovery

“I move the elbow calmly, slowly but safely, so it was a major operation. They opened my forearm to extract the long palm tendon and transplant it to the elbow ligament. After that, I had three weeks of immobilization, followed by another three weeks of rehabilitation to regain normal ranges of motion. Now I've started another phase that will last five more weeks before I can pick up the racket again, which still remains a quite lengthy period.”

This is the injury Arthur Cazaux suffers from

“The surgeon told me it is a very common injury in baseball pitchers and athletes who endure impacts, for example in rugby. As for me, it occurred due to my instability in the elbow because my ligament was very worn out and no longer rotated well, hence these repeated injuries. It can be explained by my hyperlaxity in the upper limbs, with the advantage that, for my size, I can develop speed and strength. The downside of hyperlaxity is that it made me much more fragile with the training load or competition.”

The anguish of following the circuit from the sidelines

“When the Roland Garros period arrived, honestly, I felt a small pinch in my heart, I would have liked to be in that environment. My choice was quite clear, I was pretty sure of myself because I had been dragging these pains for a while, although I knew the process was going to be very long. I still hope to return by late September or early October if we validate all the phases, although my goal is to perform well at the beginning of 2027.”

New work team to enter a new phase

“Recently, I parted ways with Sam Sumyk, I made this decision because we hadn't achieved the expected results, even with this injury. Since the start of the season, I haven't had any income, so I had to reevaluate how my team operates, although I have sponsors who continue to support me. Now I will try to find a head coach to really start on a good foundation, someone who can help me evolve in the right direction, not only in technical and tactical aspects but also in personal development and emotion management. Fortunately, I have Florian Reynet always by my side, who helps me and will be traveling with me for a few weeks.”

His role in 2025 and his next objective

“Gritting my teeth, I still managed to reach the 56th position in the world. I know I have the playing level, and I also know what I need to reach higher levels: consistency. To have consistency, I will need a body that can endure to break into the top50 or top30. My goal is to win major tournaments in the future.”
