Milos Raonic, former world number three and finalist at Wimbledon in 2016, announced that he is putting an end to his sports career in the world of tennis. Social media was the chosen means by the now former Canadian player to communicate the official retirement after nearly 20 years on the circuit.

The past few seasons were not easy for Raonic, constantly having to recover from injuries, even going a year without touching a ball. After a final attempt in 2024, the American player did not compete in any matches in the past 2025, making this retirement an open secret.

"The time has come, I retire from tennis. It's a moment you know will come someday, but for some reason, you never feel ready. I'm more prepared than ever. Tennis has been my passion and obsession for most of my life," Milos said through his social media.

"I have been the luckiest person to have been able to live and fulfill my dreams. I could show up every day and focus on improving, see where that would take me, and play a sport I discovered at 8 years old by pure chance. Somehow, this became my obsession and childhood, and then my profession and my life."

"I am grateful for the incredible fans I was able to compete and train in front of worldwide. They could see me shine at my best and manage the toughest moments on the court. They could see me grow. Thanks to each and every one who stopped, even for a moment, to watch and support me.

Thanks to my coaches and my team, who took time away from their families and homes to accompany me on the journey as I pursued my dreams and goals. I appreciate their guidance and teachings. Thanks to the ATP Tour, the ITF, and all the Grand Slams. I dreamed of playing in the big tournaments and I got to live those incredible experiences surrounded by exceptional people who strive for tennis at its best. Thanks to all my colleagues and rivals. I admired you in my childhood, I admired you throughout my career, and I will continue to admire you as a fan. I became the best player I could be, a better person, and learned many of life's most important lessons from the challenges of competing against you week after week for over two decades.

Thanks to Canada. My family and I came over 30 years ago. Thanks to you, I devoted myself to tennis, thanks to you, it changed my family's life, and I enjoyed every moment of representing Canada worldwide. Mom, Dad, Jelena, and Momir, I am extremely grateful for putting aside your lives at many moments so that I could pursue a dream. It was only made possible by you. None of this is possible without the constant effort and emotional support you gave to my dreams. While I am so lucky to have discovered tennis, it pales in comparison to the luck I have in having you as parents, sister, and brother. I hope to make my wife and son proud every day and hope to be for them the kind of family mine was for me.

A significant part of my tennis journey has been the incredible people I've had the fortune to meet worldwide. Many times, they have been wonderful mentors who have given me the time and guidance to unravel the rest of my life. I thank them for making many of life's most important questions more bearable. Their attention and time have made this process much clearer and inspiring. What comes next? I am not slowing down. There is so much life ahead, and I am as motivated and eager as in 2011 when I took off on the circuit. I will put the same effort and intensity into what comes next. If I can achieve the same excellence as with tennis, striving to be better every day, we will see where it takes me."
