We know it is one of the most anticipated articles, one of those that might bring a tear to your eye. Today we review the list of tennis players who decided to retire in the 2025 season, illustrious names that we will never see on the court again.

Not on an official court, of course, but it hurts just the same. Once again, the list of retirees within the men's and women's circuits is extensive, so we will see if I can give everyone the space they deserve. I'll focus on the most famous ones, those who graced the main courts, those who had extensive careers, and, in the best cases, those we will remember for a lifetime thanks to a particular match. These are the tennis players who will bid farewell forever with the 2025 season, though they will never be forgotten.

EUGENIE BOUCHARD

Although many thought she had already retired due to her minimal presence on the circuit, there hadn't been any official announcement. Until the Canadian gathered her courage and announced that her sports career would come to an end at the WTA 1000 in Montreal, her home tournament. There, she allowed herself the luxury of winning one last match (against Emiliana Arango) only to lose in the second round to Belinda Bencic (6-2, 3-6, 6-4). She fought hard against the Swiss player, but the days on the tour for the 31-year-old were numbered.

ALIZÉ CORNET

Three retirements I count for the Frenchwoman in the last year; this shows how challenging it is to take a step back and bid farewell to what has been with you all your life. In the end, neither Roland Garros nor Wimbledon marked the end. So where then? At the WTA 125 in San Sebastián, losing in the first round to Tamara Korpatsch (6-3, 6-2) in a match with little media coverage. Luckily, the career of the Frenchwoman didn't need any more embellishments.

FABIO FOGNINI

One of the most curious retirements, as the Italian didn't know that his first-round match at Wimbledon against Carlos Alcaraz would end up being his final match. After a beautiful five-set battle (7-6, 6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1), Fognini understood that there was no better way to say goodbye. At the Cathedral, against the world number 1, and with a match that perfectly represents Fabio's dedication on important days. An incomparable personality that will be greatly missed, although Italian tennis is in good hands.
