Victoria Mboko reunites with victory two months later

It would have been very tough for Victoria Mboko to suffer another defeat at the WTA 500 in Tokyo. A woman who, since winning the WTA 1000 in Montreal this summer, had only faced losses in all her matches: four out of four. This morning, on her fifth attempt, the 19-year-old finally managed to shake off that burden by defeating her compatriot Bianca Andreescu (6-3, 6-3) in a first-round match where both players had a lot at stake, considering we are in the final week of competition for the year before seeing the best players at the WTA Finals. Mboko will now face Germany's Eva Lys in the round of 16, another great discovery in this 2025 season.
