Coco Gauff landed in Asia with the aim of it being "a preseason for 2026". After the four Grand Slams, where she clinched the title at Roland Garros, the end of the season is always challenging for players due to muscle fatigue and lack of motivation. However, it seems that hasn't been the case for the world number three.

During her time in China, Coco Gauff secured the title at the WTA1000 Wuhan and reached the semifinals of the WTA Beijing. Displaying a consistency she lacked in Wimbledon (exiting in the first round) and the US Open (falling in the round of 16). Nevertheless, her success in Paris and performance on this tour have secured her a spot at the WTA Finals for the fourth consecutive year, where she is the defending champion.

Consequently, the Atlanta native expressed her joy in an interview with Arab News at qualifying for the Riyadh finals weeks in advance. She also reflected on her memories of her first WTA Finals, where she lost her first three matches, and the impressions left by this Asian tour.

Coco Gauff's Thoughts on the WTA Finals After Winning the WTA Wuhan

"It means a lot to me. I think it shows that I'm definitely not falling behind and I want to keep improving, climb in the rankings, and perform well. For me, just qualifying for the final, especially a bit early, I consider that so soon, without having to play the other tournaments, is a fantastic feeling. It's a prestigious tournament, one that I always look forward to playing and being a part of.

Her First Finals in Fort Worth in 2022, a Tournament to Forget

"I remember being very tired entering that tournament, never had played such a long and exhausting season as the previous one; and I also liked playing singles and doubles. When I lost my first match, I thought, 'Okay, that's fine. I only had the goal of winning one match and I just didn't achieve it.' And then, honestly, right after that, I thought, 'Well, to win this tournament, I have to put in a great effort'".

She Dislikes How the WTA Finals Change Locations Frequently

"I don't know. Given that in my last three finals it's been in three different places, I definitely don't think we should go to different places every year. Now, I don't feel like I've been in a circuit long enough to know if 10 years are right or not because I've played in three different years. And I definitely think it's beneficial to keep a tournament there for at least two or three years in a row".

Satisfied with Her Asian Tour

"I'm going to challenge Jean-Christophe Faurel, my coach, because initially he didn't want me to come to China after a tough US Open, but I had to prove him wrong. I'm very stubborn, so maybe he said it on purpose so I could have a good result here," states a Coco Gauff who, as she secures the title in Wuhan, is already thinking about defending her WTA Finals title.
