Flavio Cobolli, in his victory over Bublik.

Flavio Cobolli is demonstrating throughout 2024 that he is not only capable of displaying his best version on clay courts: he is becoming a more versatile player, able to shape his game on different surfaces. His debut at ATP Beijing 2024 is another showcase of what he can do: he saved a match point and came back from behind in a thrilling match against Alexander Bublik, knocking out the eighth seed in the Chinese capital (4-6, 6-1, 7-6(4)). A great result for the Italian, especially considering the jet lag and little preparation time after being part of the last Laver Cup in Berlin.

Other match results (first round):

  • Adrian Mannarino def. Lorenzo Sonego 1-6, 6-2, 6-3
  • Pavel Kotov (Q) def. Yi Zhou (WC) 1-6, 6-3, 7-5
  • Tallon Griekspoor def. Miomir Kecmanovic 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-3
