Popyrin suffers hangover from success and falls to Monfils

Following the tradition of the finalists of the Canadian Masters, Alexei Popyrin falls in the first round of ATP Cincinnati 2024. Just a couple of days after lifting the trophy in Montreal, the Australian is eliminated from the American tournament by a great Gael Monfils who won 7-5 and 6-3 in 1 hour and 22 minutes. Alexei threatened a comeback by taking a 2-0 lead in the second set, but the Frenchman managed to recover the deficit to set up a match with Carlos Alcaraz in the next round.
